Course Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to drive a heavy combination vehicle safely.
It includes maintaining systematic and efficient control of all vehicle functions, monitoring traffic and road conditions, managing vehicle condition and performance, coupling and uncoupling a trailer, and effectively managing hazardous situations.
Driving must be carried out in accordance with relevant state/territory roads and traffic authority licence requirements and regulations for heavy combination vehicles.
Driving is performed with limited supervision, and duty of care responsibility for self and others in achieving the prescribed outcomes.
Entry Requirements
There are no academic requirements for this qualification, however, East West Training requires that all students:
- WA Drivers’ Licence for at least 3 years
- MR or HR licence for at least 1 year
- If you have overseas licence, contact DoT and get HR learner permit

Course Outcome
HC Licence Allows You to Drive a Motor Vehicle That is Attached to a semi-trailer or a trailer that has a gross vehicle mass exceeding 9 tonnes.
All HC assessments are conducted by our approved assessors onsite.
If you hold an interstate or international licence, please contact the Dept of Transport to obtain either a Learners’ Permit or transfer your interstate licence to a WA licence.
Course Structure
All teaching, learning and assessment activities are required to be undertaken by the targeted student to demonstrate the learning outcomes of this unit of competency. The amount of training required to achieve this unit of competency has been calculated based upon:
- The starting point of the student.
- Their learning skills.
- The delivery mode for this course; and
- The breadth and complexity of the skills and knowledge to be acquired.
For this unit of competency:
- Delivery is face-to-face (adhering to government guidelines surrounding COVID19)
- The training hours comprises the formal learning activities provided to the student.
- The training hours plus the hours required for the student to complete assessments will equal the total hours required for the student to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit of competency.
Delivery Process
East West Training is located at 6/2 Davison Street, Maddington WA 6109. This is where all face-to-face training will be delivered. Students must attend our offices for the prescribed number of hours for their allocated days of the week and receive face to face training.
Training and assessment are conducted at the employer’s depot.
